Matthew loves data, and believes passionately in the importance of measuring what really matters - as a mechanism through which to ensure every single child, without exception or condition, be seen, be heard, be known and belong.
Formerly Principal of an award-winning international school in the Middle East, and with a long and varied career in school leadership both in the UK and internationally, Matthew now works closely with premium schools and school groups worldwide, helping them to use data wisely and well. Whilst avowedly curriculum- and platform-agnostic, he spent 10 years as a trainer for GL Education globally, both face-to-face and online, through which work he continues to make and build connections worldwide.
Matthew’s work explores the intersection of wellbeing and DEIJB, through the prism of kind, ‘warm’, ‘street’ and slow data, so that schools are better able to ensure that every single student, without condition or exception, can “be seen, be heard, be known and belong”. In this way, he works remotely and in person with educators, leaders, students, parents and boards on every continent.
Educational Advisor to the Board of Governors at Broadoaks British School in Abuja, and a member of the Board of Governors at St George’s International School in Luxembourg, Matthew is also a Thought Partner with Noonchi Wellbeing, and an executive leadership coach with LSC Education, in which role he provides executive coaching for school leaders in the UK and internationally.
A member of the Global Equality Collective, a regular contributor to the Diverse Educators community (and to their 2023 book, ‘A Manifesto‘), and an advisory board member for Parents’ Alliance for Inclusion, Matthew also uses his or his children’s lived experience of physical disability, mental ill health, neurodivergence and gender identity to help schools read the stories of the students and staff on their margins.
His keynotes and workshops have featured in educational conferences worldwide, including for COBIS, BSME, ECIS, TAISI, Data in Schools, SPAN (Safe Passage Across Networks), 21st Century Learning and Outstanding Schools.
He writes regularly for numerous, international magazines and blogs, including for Wellbeing in International Schools Magazine, International School Leader, School Management Plus, International Teacher Magazine, SchoolRubric, the International Schools Network, Diverse Educators, Teach Middle East and CIS.
He has been interviewed for numerous podcasts, including Teach Middle East, Flourishing at School, WISEducation, ISC Research, Making Stuff Better, Future Learning Design, The Educator’s Corner, Nord Anglia Education, EUNEPA’s #LeadershipToGo Podcast, and Noonchi. He is also the host of the Jack and Me podcast.
He lives on the Isle of Skye with his wonderful wife and atypical dog.
